Dolma Magazine:
The Tibetan Women's Association (TWA) is delighted to release Dolma in a new light. It was first published in 1989 as a TWA News Magazine. In 2006, TWA launched Voice, TWA's Quarterly Newsletter, to replace the work of Dolma Magazine. Readers have embraced Voice with great success as it is better suited for faster news reporting in light of our growing activities.
From now on, Dolma will be a forum for the intellectual expression of Tibetan women on themes and topics that are of relevance to them. The change is purported to contribute to the important objective of empowering Tibetan women in exile on multiple fronts. The Tibetan Women's Association not only seeks to address the struggle between genders and legitimate women's rights in society, but also to eliminate all subtle obstacles hindering the developments and intellectual growth of Tibetan women. Given the vast ability and potential of Tibetan women, it is high time that such a forum is in place where women can express themselves to the fullest. Thus, TWA has taken this initiative to create a forum exclusively for women where their intellectual potentials and literary talents not only can be explored but can also find expression and recognition.
TWA is also introducing the first-ever "Wisdom of Women's Words" Essay Competition. There are cash prizes for the 3 top articles. To learn more about the topic of the essay competition, due date and prizes involved, please write to
One of the main features of the new Dolma will be articles and essays written by Tibetan women of all ages. TWA has created an essay competition divided into two categories; one for school girls and the other for women of college age or older. Contestants will be prompted with different essay topics each year, and the three best essays from each age category will be selected and published in Dolma under the caption "Wisdom of Women's Words". The purpose of women related themes is to encourage women to write about themselves - their roels and responsibilities, interests and talents, and their inner feelings and experiences. We want women to reflect strongly on their self-perception. It is human nature for one to express views on things that others need to do. However, TWA believes that change begins with the self.
We hope this upgraded version of Doma will be welcomed as enthusiastically as Voice.
