Day One:

Tibetan Women’s Association greets the June group of the Operation Groundswell by taking tour around five NGOs namely:- Tibetan Women’s Association,Tibetan Youth Congress, Lha Charitable Trust, International Tibet Networks, Students for Free Tibet, India and Gu – Chu- Sum.

Operation Groundswell is a Canadian non-profit organization that organizes educational backpacking programs in many different countries in the world including India. Their program is titled “Gender and Religion” and runs two 6-week programs during the summer in the north of India. They aim to look at the complexities of the barriers faced by many women in India as they intersect with religion, with caste, with poverty, with sexuality, etc.

Dharamshala has been chosen as a location on their program because it offers participants a particular political and religious perspective. Being the Tibetan capital in exile and the center of Buddhism in India, their group will gain exposure to the unique community of activism here.
