Women Empowerment Workshop at Gangtok

20141027_093412A two-day women empowerment workshop was organized by the Women’s Empowerment Desk, Department of Home, in collaboration with the Tibetan Parliamentary and Policy Research Centre (TPPRC) and Central Tibetan Women’s Association.
The workshop was attended by more than 53 participants from Gangtok, Ravangla, Darjeeling, Sonata and Kalimpong.

The inaugural session of the Women Empowerment workshop was attended by Shri P.D Rai, Member of Lok Sabha, Parliament of India; Ms. Gyari Dolma, Kalon for the Department of Home, CTA; Ms. Pramilatai Mede, Former Chief of Rashtriya Sevika Samiti; Ms. Shanta Kumari, Chief of Rashtriya Sevika Samiti. Other dignitaries were Ms. Kamla Bhasin, South Asia’s leading Gender Trainer, Ms.Youdon Aukartsang, Member of Tibetan Parliament in Exile; Dr. B. Tsering, Member of Tibetan Parliament in Exile and principal of Dalai Lama Institute of Higher Education and the settlement officers of Gangtok and Ravangla Tibetan settlement.


For the 2 day workshop, there were six trainees from different parts of India covering various topics related to women empowerment and gender equality.

Day 1:

1. Ms. Kamla Bhasin, South Asia’s leading Gender Trainer and also a social scientist by training.
Covered on: Status of Women worldwide, Women Empowerment, what should be the journey forward? Gender, Patriarchy, Women’s Movement,       Feminism, Violence Against Women, etc.

2. Ms. Youdon Aukatsang, Member of TPiE
Covered on: Developing the self for leadership


The two-day workshop was successfully concluded with distribution of certificates to the participants. The Gangtok settlement officers and his team have facilitated this two-day session with all the necessary helps that the organizing team needed.
