Tibetan Women’s Association is happy to start up the first Operation Groundswell program

Tibetan Women’s Association is happy to start up the first Operation Groundswell program of the year for five days of Educational Tour from 24th, 25th, 26th, 30th and 31st May, 2018 led by Mrs. Kalsang Youdon, Vice-President and Ms. Tsering Choezom, General Secretary along with OG group leaders Nirvana and Jazzmine.

Day 1- The first day of the program started by visiting and getting an introduction to various NGOs around Dharamshala. The first session of the day was with Tibetan Women’s Association followed by Tibetan Youth Congress, Lha Charitable Trust, Gu-Chu-Sum Movement for Tibet and finally Students for a Free Tibet- India. All the NGOs gave one hour duration to brief about ones organization followed by Q&A session.

Day 2- In the morning session they met with Ms. Tenzin Dawa La, English Researcher from the Tibetan Centre for Human Rights and Democracy to talk about Human Rights Violation inside Tibet with special focus on the Tibetan Women and their rights. This was followed by meeting with Ama Adhe, Ex Political Prisoner from Tibet. Everyone was moved by her case history as a political prisoner for the past 28 years in Tibet under Chinese repression and torture. The afternoon session was with Ms. Tenzin Choezin the head consultant at Tibetan Career Centre talked about the Gender Equality in Tibetan Diaspora.

Day 3- The third day was at the Office of Stories of Tibet where Mr. Kunsang La, the Director begun the session with a short introduction about how SOT was formed followed by screening of short clips about Tibetan individuals. He concluded with the informal question and answers session.

Day 4- The day started from Men-Tsee-Khang where the group was introduced to how Men-Tsee-Khang was formed, Tibetan medicine and Astrology. They then toured around the museum. The next session was with the Director Ven. Geshe Lhakdor La. After lunch the group headed to Tibetan Nuns’ Project, Dolma Ling and met with the Director Mrs. Rinchen Khando La and the group concluded their session by touring around the museum and craft centres at Norbulingka.

Day 5- The last day of the Education Tour was half day training on Conflict Resolution led by Mrs. Sonam Dechen La, the Associate Director of Tibetan Centre for Conflict Resolution.
