TWA speaks out in solidarity with Tibetan martyrs
Dharamsala, October 28: Yesterday evening TWA’s president Dolkar Lhamo Kirti attended a candlelight vigil organized by Mr. Phuntsok Tsering at Norbulingka in Dharamsala, where she spoke out in response to the recent spate of self-immolations in Tibet – so far a total of 10 in 2011 alone. The latest case occured Tuesday October 25 at 9.30am Tibet time, when 38 year-old monk Dawa Tsering from Kardze Monastery in Kardze County, Sichuan Province self-immolated whilst calling for the return of His Holiness the Dalai Lama, equality and freedom in Tibet – he suffered severe burn injuries and is in a critical condition.
Around 400 people marched to Gyuto Monastery last night, taking part in solidarity with all those suffering in Tibet and campaigning for an urgent response from worldwide governments, particularly with regard to the military crackdown in Amdo Ngaba. TWA’s president said: “The crackdown should stop and all the international communities should pressurize the Chinese authorities. The recent incidents show that the situation is still very tense. All Tibetans must unite; we will not give up.”
