World River’s Day

In marking World River’s Day falling on 25th September 2022, the Central Tibetan Women’s Association held this year’s theme “Water Ways in Our Communities” to feature the values of rivers and promote their conservation despite the heavy rains. The primary goal was set to appreciate and treasure Tibet’s river since Tibet is considered the water tower of Asia declaring another title as ‘the Third Pole’ since it holds the third largest store of water-ice in the world after Antarctica and the Arctic. Due to China’s rapid exploitation of Tibet’s mineral resources, dumping of waste materials in the river, carbon emissions, and many more are threatening the livelihood of ten downstream nations. Both the executives and staff urged the world leaders to join the action and include the movement as part of the global climate discussion.
