Scientists have established Tibet as the planetary ‘Third Pole.’ It has the largest reservoir of fresh water besides the two poles (Artic and Antarctica), and is home to more than 46,000 glaciers, and thereby is Asia’s water tower. Tibet Third Pole is the head region of Asia’s ten major rivers feeding 1.3 billion lives in ten downstream nations including China. Recent research has indicated that heating of Tibetan plateau also influences the onset of Asia’s monsoon.

Organized by the Women’s Environment and Development Desk (WEDD) of TWA, with this conference we aim to discuss how in the age of Climate change, Tibet’s environment is under threat thus posing greater threat to Asia and how this could be averted.

An undertaking of Tibetan Women’s Association.
